Spa vacations for you and your pet

Spa vacations for you and your pet

It is not very common, but there are spas and resorts that cater to guests with pets. Typically, you are allowed to bring your pet and stay in a special room. Some of these places even offer pet massages and other services especially for our furry friends.

However, it is really no surprise that more and more resorts and spas are offering accommodations and special spa treatments for people and their pets, considering that Americans spend more than $60 million on them each year and an increasing number of people travel with pets.

Most people think that dog massages at luxury, pet-friendly hotels are a prime example of how pet parents spoil their furry friends. But dog massages offer many tail-wagging health benefits: “there is a huge misconception about animal massage; that it is just another spa service for our overly pampered dogs in diamond necklaces and Prada boots,” says Tom Galligan, a Certified Animal Massage Practitioner available at La Quinta Resort & Club (California)

According to Galligan, these could be some good reasons to splurge on massages to your pets:

  • Increases circulation of the blood and lymphatic systems
  • Increases flexibility and range of motion
  • Relieves muscular restrictions, tightness, stiffness and spasms
  • Interrupts the pain cycle
  • Helps reduce excessive scar formation in soft tissue
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Transmits the psychological benefits of touch
  • Relieves stress
  • Helps maintain a health skin and shiny coat
  • Promotes an overall sense of wellness and relaxation
